How my plan progressed
1st iteration
First my idea was to create a banner where people who came
to the open day could write down what makes them angry because it related to my
field research were the same thing is done but in group talks and in the
journals that some of the group members had but in an anonymous way so people
would be free to write what every they want and it is a good example of both
anger and expression and that is what works, what doesn't work would be if
nobody wrote on the banner. The thing that I would change would be the way that
people would know what to do with the banner.
2nd iteration
I had a look at the class room and figured out how I could
present the work no matter where I had to present, this meant the space on the
wall or a 3D image or a video. I could
present on the whiteboard as a last result if I forget everything on the day I
can still have something. I could hang the banner on the wall and have everyone
paint on it. I could have a book that people write into and put it on a table.
If I get too lazy I could just make a square on the floor out of tape and call
it the anger zone. All these things are possible. The things that work would be
the whiteboard or the ground because for the whiteboard I won’t need to find
paint just markers for the whiteboard and for the ground I won’t need to worry
about finding a way to pin it up and people can become more expressive and use
their body parts. The thing that doesn't work would be the book idea because it
seems a bit vague and people will not want to write if it is not interesting.
The thing I would change would be the white board to make it more interesting.
3rd iteration
This time I chose to add the rule of not using a tool when
writing on the banner. What works would be if I used a banner so people
wouldn't stick to form when writing on the banner and it would save me having
to get a brush. What wouldn't work would be if I did the whiteboard because
then you would not be able to write and also I would have to find and put a
drop sheet up to stop the paint from going everywhere. I would have to change
ideas for this to work.
4th iteration
After talking to you I found that holding an expressive
paint workshop would be a bit better towards my words. What would work would be
the word expression being bought out more with this idea; I chose to dump the
idea of writing because it seems impersonal and doesn’t suit my manifesto call
to action of going about things in an interesting way. What wouldn’t work was
if I couldn’t get all the parts on time or I don’t explain properly. The thing
I would change would be the need for so many things to be present for my
install and for there to be something to make it more interesting or having
something that will help people move away from conventional form.
5th iteration
Adding the rule of not using brushes for this idea would
make it more interesting and force people to be more abstract and expressive
with their painting and it would help with not needing brushes on the day. What
works is the synergy between expression and freeing others with a rule, it has
the possibility to go far. The thing that doesn’t work is that people won’t
want to get their hands dirty if they can avoid it and I’m sure people don’t
want to sit down and just paint like a child for half an hour plus this goes
against my manifesto. The thing that I would change would be the idea overall
to make it more about the expression and research and less about the form of
the install.
6th iteration
Changing the idea to be a board were the people from the
open day can paint their emotions on is the idea that I developed from looking
over all my iterations, it doesn’t take allot of time, it is fun, it doesn’t
take much commitment and it can be placed anywhere so i don’t need to worry
about the space I’m installing. The problem would be finding the paint and
making sure that people don’t use the paint on other peoples work but it will
be very interesting to see what the finished painting will look like. To make
it more interesting I will add the rule that you can only make 3 strokes on the
board, this will make people think harder about how they will express
themselves, finding the paint might be difficult but I will keep the tape plan for
backup if I can’t get everything together .
