Interview (Rebecca)

On the 7th of November I got into contact with a retired psychologist from Germany who I met through a mutual friend, sadly I wasn't able to record the Skype call but I did write down a chat log as we went.through our conversation

Me-Hello how are you doing today

Him-Great its nice to finally see you face to face Hugo has told me many things about you but lets get started I charge by the hour

Me- Thanks for taking time out to talk to me I understand it is late i will try not to take too much of your time since the difference is huge

Him- I was just kidding its not like I have anything better to do so feel free to ask whatever you want, talking with a joking tone is hard since I'm not used to English but I hope to give you the answers you are looking for

Me- So what are your thoughts on anger?

Him- Anger is an interesting emotion because it is as raw and spontaneous like love or it can be small like nervousness, it all depends on the other emotions you have and the context it is felt in. It can be a powerful force that gives you reason to live or something that restrains you, from my experience I found that anger doesn't work alone, when a mother is angry at her son for running across the road she is angry because she loves him and doesn't want him to get hurt or is angry because their son is getting in their way, each scenario the source of the anger is different and you get anger expressed in different ways but it is still the same emotion, from a distance you wouldn't be able to tell what scenario is at first but each will manifest in its own way, if the people were different but put in the same situation the way they would express their anger would be different as well.

Me- Is anger a bad thing because people come to you to get rid of their anger problems or stress and your practice is full of techniques to deal with anger.

Him- Luckily people don't come to me anymore but still anger is not a bad thing, everyone thinks of it as some monster that they must not let out but in reality anger is just as interfering s love but without it we would not have ambition or drive, the reason we become stronger is because we are angry at our own weakness., it is not the big bad guy people paint it as. This industry full of stress relief because when people explode it is not pretty so we try to prevent that from happening.

Me- Why is red associated with anger and expression?

Him- It is because red is the colour of heat, when people get angry blood flushes their face so they become "red" but then again ho w do you know what red is. You cant see the world through the eyes of another all we can do is talk to each other a guess, someones red could be your black anger can be any colour, it is open and so flexible that it can be expressed as any colour, it all has to do with context.

Me-What are some experiments I can do that have to do with anger?

Him- Well you can start off getting angry yourself and exhibiting your anger on objects or through vocalization to learn more about anger, there are many different ways to deal with anger, the one I would recommend would be to express yourself  some how, this could be through physical activity like jogging or boxing, it could be through Isolating yourself for a long period of time but expression through art and writings are found to be most successful so you could start writing stories about your anger or just write it down over and over like it is a rule that you must overcome or do some painting and just letting your brush flow, There are more conventional exercises like breathing control and other methods like stretching and yoga, it all comes down to your state of mind and what you are willing to do.

I'm sorry I have to run, ill be ready to talk to you again if you need it

Me- thank you for your time it was a pleasure to get your thoughts on anger, you have helped me out a great deal, ill take you up on the offer of talking again.

Through this I have found some ideas that I can use as experiments and gained a viewpoint on anger that I didn't think too far on before. Anger being a positive thing is something that I will incorporate into future questions, the only thing I didn't think was working was the amount of questions but that is subject to change.,
