Asking around the streets(Rebecca)

For my field research I went around Onehunga town center and asked people of all ages and race what makes them angry. People didn't respond well to the question sheets so I asked them in person and wrote them down on the back of the sheets. I asked if I could record their names or take photos and I got denied every time. I did get rejected multiple times but some people did take the time to talk to me, in hindsight that might be taken as creepy so I am surprised that anyone talked to me at all. After talking to you about ethics I plan to go to anger talk groups that are being held in Onehunga so it is organised and more ethical without putting myself in danger.

The questions I asked were : What makes you angry, it doesn't matter how small it is and why dose it? The general answer I got was I don't like the cold because its hard to wake up. People were not happy to have their answer written down or have their name taken so I wont reveal them for ethical reasons, here are some I got permission to use.

  •  The buses make me angry because they are always 5 years late
  • John Key makes me angry because he fucking the country up
  • I hate anchovies because they smell so bad
  • I don't like people who are unstable because they are a danger to others
  • I don't like T..V because it is a waste of time
  • I don't hate anything because they are all the lords creation
  • Public bathrooms because they are terrible
  • I hate the door to door religion recruiters because they wont leave me alone
  • I dislike smokers because thy are harming others as well as themselves
  • I don't like the police because they are useless and never get anything done
  • One of the things that make me angry are random people who stop me in the middle of the road to ask me questions because I have better things to do
  • People who aren't doing anything with their lives disappoint me because they are wasting their potential

The things that I learned for next time are have better questions, filter out people who don't take it seriously, get more involved because this cant be both FIELD and QUALITATIVE research and I need to take into account my second word expression because this is too focused on one word.

The things that did work were my approach because people seemed to want to talk to me and getting a variety of different people causes my results to not be skewed and finding out that people dont respond well to a sheet is something that was good to find out at this stage.
